Through an annual competition, Radical Innovation mobilizes innovators from around the world with the ideas to propel the industry forward. The result is a creative community gathered by the same passion for innovation, introducing the dreamers to those equipped with the necessary resources to bring such concepts to life. The competition alone has awarded nearly $200,000 to pioneers in hospitality and design, but overall, Radical Innovation serves as a platform that connects and inspires.

Judging process

  • Through a blind judging process, the jury “Design Jury” will review all Project Submissions, and the “Product Jury” will review all the Product Submissions to select the finalists.

  • All concepts will be judged on originality, creativity, design, feasibility, and quality of presentation.

  • The finalists will be mentored by the Radical Innovation Jury and Advisory Board. The submissions will be showcased on this website and voting will open to the public.

  • Finalists will present their projects at an in-person event in October. After presentations are heard, the audience will vote and select their favorite concept. Winners will be announced that evening and will be published across multiple news outlets.

Radical Concept

Are you pushing the boundaries of the world that we are currently living in and designing the world we want to create? Are you imagining the design of spaces, or even the design of interactions, experiences, processes, and strategies?

Radical Concept is an opportunity to share a project in the early phase of the design process, in which the broad outlines of form and/or function are articulated or envisioned.

Requirements:

  • Submissions must be truly innovative and offer the hospitality industry something that is not widely available.

  • We encourage designs to include innovations in health and wellness, sustainability, and technology, as well as hotel operations and/or operations.

  • Must include guestroom(s)

  • Optional to include public area, lobby, F&B, additional amenities

  • Multiple entries by a single entrant/company are permitted (maximum limit 3 submissions)

  • If your entry makes it to the finalists or the Special Judges Award, must be able to provide a notarized disclosure form and certification of project originality and authenticity


Submission Details:

  • Concept narrative and concept renderings. To be entered in a PDF less than 100MB.

  • PDF must have no names of entrants/company associated. The jury review will be a blind process.

Radical Real is an opportunity to share a project ready for potential partners and equity.

Requirements:

  • Submissions must be truly innovative and offer the hospitality industry something that is not widely available.

  • We encourage designs to include innovations in health and wellness, sustainability, and technology, as well as hotel operations and/or operations.

  • Must include guestroom(s)

  • Optional to include public area, lobby, F&B, additional amenities

  • Multiple entries by a single entrant/company are permitted (maximum limit 3 submissions)

Radical Product Concept is an opportunity to share your idea for a product in the early conceptual phase of the design process, in which various aspects of the design are considered, such as user experience, usability, styling, technology. This may also include concepts that are currently not feasible due to current manufacturing or technological limitations.

  • Submissions must be truly innovative and offer the hospitality industry something that is not widely available.

  • Concepts may be applicable to any aspect of the hospitality industry.

  • Multiple entries by a single entrant/company are permitted (maximum limit 3 submissions).

WHAT IS RADICAL INNOVATION?
Radical Innovation, an initiative that challenges creative thinkers at the professional and student level to pioneer compelling ideas in travel and hospitality culminating in an annual juried awards event promoting the best ideas for the future of the industry. This year, the submission categories included: Professional and/or Student –Radical Hospitality Design, Concept or Product, either new or existing. Since its founding in 2006, Radical Innovation has awarded over $200,000 to its international network of creative talents who to push the boundaries of travel and hospitality.

WHEN CAN I ENTER MY SUBMISSION?
The Call for Entries begins in January the year of the competition. Submissions close June 1, 2023. Judging takes place from June to August. The Professional Finalists and Student Winner are announced in October and invited to a live audience event in October where they are able to pitch their expanded submissions for a live vote to determine the winner. MAY I ENTER MY SUBMISSION IN MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY OR MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS?
Yes, you may select more than one category from the categories field, and you may enter up to (3) separate submissions. WHAT ARE THE ENTRY FEES? Entry fees for Professionals $250 per submission. Student submissions are complimentary.

MAY I RETURN TO MY ENTRY TO UPDATE OR ADD TO IT ONCE SUBMITTED?
Yes, up until the closing of the submissions–you can access your submission to make changes.

WHO CAN ENTER THE AWARDS?
University Students and/or Professionals may enter.

WILL RADICAL INNOVATION PROMOTE MY SUBMISSION OR ASSIST WITH FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF MY SUBMISSION OR CONCEPT?
Yes, starting in 2023, Radical Innovations new division, Radical Labs will work with submitters to evaluate their concepts and if selected, work with them to bring their concepts and ideas to reality.

IS RADICAL INNOVATION AFFILIATED WITH ANY UNIVERSITIES?
Radical Innovation enjoys support and sponsorship from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Architecture, University of Illinois, School of Architecture and NYU School of Professional Studies, Jonathan Tisch Center of Hospitality. Each offer a student winner scholarship opportunity (see Student Program page for details).

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Radical Innovation Awards are an open competition.

Finalists are determined solely on the basis of their submissions.  By participating in the competition, you agree to these terms & conditions.

Competition Period; Radical innovation Awards 2023 opens for submissions on 25 January 2023 and closes on 1 June 2023 at 11:59 pm ET. Qualifying entries must be received during this period at the Radical Innovation website Radicalinnovation.io. Note that the dates may be extended at the sole discretion of Radical Innovation (the Organizer). The Organized and its affiliates are not responsible for lost, misdirected, tapered with or undelivered entries. Entries submitted with incomplete or inaccurate information may be disqualified. The Organizer and its affiliates are not responsible for any failure in the entry submission process.

The number of entries per person or company is limited to three.

Radical Innovation is open to professional, amateur and students from any country or region in the world.  Entrants must be adults (determined by the age of majority in their place of resident by the conclusion of the competition period.

Entries must be submitted in English only. 

Entrants may submit work previously submitted to other competitions.

Work deemed offensive, abusive, or threating on the grounds of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual preferences will be disqualified.

All work must be the entrants wholly original creation (with the exception of material in the public domain).  By submitting the entry, the entrant acknowledges that the entire work is his or her original creation and that no other person or entity has any right of claim to the work.  Furthermore, the entrant acknowledges that the entire work is his or her original creation and that no other person or entity has any right or claim to the work. The entrant affirms that to the best of his or her knowledge the work does not infringe on copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights.

By submitting a work, the entrant grants the Organize and its affiliates royalty-free rights to publish the work world-wide, including but not limited to the images depicted therein, for promotional and non-commercial purposes for an unlimited period.

By participating, the entrant grant permission to the Organizer for his or her name and any prize information to be used for promotional purposes without additional compensation or notice in any media worldwide for an unlimited period.

The entrant acknowledges that his or her entries may bear similarities to the work of other entrants, and in such a case, the entrant will not be entitled to any compensation nor have the right to negotiate for any award based on said similarities.

Finalists will be selected by mid-August 2023. Notification will take place by email. In the event the Organizer is unable to contact a finalist due to inaccurate, changes, or incomplete contact information, any prizes will be forfeited, and an alternate finalist will be selected.  Neither the Organizer nor any of its affiliates shall be held liable for late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential finalist.

Prizes are non-transferable and cash alternative will not be offered.

Entrants agree to release and hold blameless the Organizer and their subsidiaries, affiliates and any agencies contract to support the operation of the Radical Innovation Award, and each of their respective directors and employees (Released Parties) from all liability, costs, losses, harm or injuries related to the entrant’s involvement  in the Radical Innovation Award, including but not limited to any work to develop prototypes, any work related to the submission of entries, and participation in any of the prizes.

Entrants agree to release and indemnify the Released Parties from any liability resulting from his or her participation with Radical Innovation Awards and to waive all rights to bring any claim or legal action against the Released Parties.

In the event that Radical Innovation Award 2023 cannot be continued due to the occurrence of a force majeure event, the Organizer has the right to modify, suspend or terminate Radical Innovation Award 2023.

In the event of any dispute arising from or in connection to Radical Innovation Award, the legal jurisdiction shall be the state of Georgia, USA.
